I am a bit confused by store owners who will not work with Amazon-published authors when traditional publishers clearly use Amazon. The idea that only traditionally published books sell well shows a lack of knowledge about current bestsellers. Being traditionally published is not necessarily a mark of good writing, just a mark of making it through a narrow gate.
I also wonder why IngramSpark is viewed as a more legitimate distributor. IngramSpark’s return policy forces an author to pay for return shipping. One return shipping cost can easily wipe out the profits from several sales. It does not make economic sense. How can an author know what books might sell in a particular store? Or how many a buyer might buy and then return? Or which books might be most successful? Understanding why an author may not be able to offer returns shows the respect that every small business deserves.
Working judiciously with as many distribution channels as possible is the only way for an Indie author to reach their audience. Judgemental censorship on authors who sell through Amazon does no one any good. Instead, it creates an adversarial relationship and makes authors feel even more isolated.

I hope to write a series of blog reflections on science fiction realities that aren’t fiction anymore. Is this really where we want to go?
